Following the departure of the old Chord cable range which included Crimson, Cobra, Chameleon, Cadenza, Chorus and Anthem (phew!) Chord have slimmed down and re-focused their range of cables. First to arrive were the higher end Shawline and Epic interconnects, which effectively replaced the Chorus/Anthem, but unlike their predecessors also have same-name matching speaker cables available (which the Chorus and Anthem didn’t) allowing you to fully match the cables throughout your system from a single range.

Following Epic and Shawline

The new Epic and especially the new Shawline cables have been incredibly popular and are significant improvements on their predecessors. We still had a few Chorus and Anthem cables in stock and managed to do some A-B comparisons between the old and new range and Chord have certainly upped their game as the new cables were clearer, more dynamic and simply more musical – a lot closer to the far more expensive Signature range.

Clearway RCA interconnects

So it was with some excitement that we announce the addition of several Clearway cables to Chord’s range. In terms of price these effectively replace Chameleon and Cadenza level cables, but such is the extent of the developments Chord have made that – like Epic and Shawline, they are essentially completely brand new cables. The focus of this blog is what we expect will be the most popular cable in the new Clearway range, the Clearway RCA interconnects. These arrive alongside a brand new Clearway XLR interconnect and Clearway Digital cable, which join the Clearway speaker cable.

chord clearway interconnect cableThis new cable is built on Chord’s tradition of making high-quality interconnects and combines some of their most recent designs (like the higher end Shawline and Epic), into a more affordable cable that suits a wide range of hi-fi separates and is an excellent introduction to high end cables.

Cable Design

What make these interconnects so special is the inclusion of Chord’s unique ARAY conductor geometry, which is developed directly from Chord’s flagship Sarum Tuned ARAY cables. Each cable is fitted with Chord VEE 3 RCA plugs, which include PTFE insulation between both the signal and the return contacts.

Much like everything else within the Clearway range (digital and analogue), premium components and materials have been used throughout. The Conductors are high quality oxygen free copper, fully insulated with FEP and mechanically damped with PVC. And of course, the shielding is provided by dual layer heavy gauge foil. This is all finished off with the addition of the VEE 3 RC, a low mass RCA plug with direct silver-plating designed to improve signal transfer.

Combining all of this together with the ARAY conductors is a unique design in that it will sound good from the second it goes live. However, as with any cables, it will take a little while to burn in and therefore should be regarded with patience and care for the first hours of listening.

We highly recommend these interconnects and even more so with the benefit of our 30 day money back guarantee, allowing you to try them at home before you commit to keeping them. Available in a choice of 0.5m or 1.0m lengths. For more information, view them on our website.
