Product Description
Audio Technica VM520EB is a Dual Moving Magnet Stereo Cartridge equipped with an elliptical bonded stylus. This reduces tracing distortion and allows for more accurate sound reproduction. It sits below the VM530EN which features an upgraded elliptical nude stylus.
Channel Separation
VM520EB uses Audio Technica's internationally patented dual magnet design which arranges two magnets in the shape of a V replicating a cutter head instead of just using an individual large magnet. The two magnets are accurately positioned to match the left and right channel locations in the stereo groove walls ensuring outstanding channel separation, extended frequency response and superb tracking.
Remarkable Linearity
Para-toroidal coils improve generating efficiency and offers superb linearity, since leakage of magnetic flux in this continuous and unitised magnetic circuit is low. Permeability of the cores is also optimised through the use of laminated cores.
Centre Shield Plate
A permalloy centre shield plate enables the effective separation of left and right channels, suppressing electrical crosstalk to below 40dB. This is similar to the actual crosstalk value found in the grooves of the record itself.
Elliptical Bonded Stylus
Elliptical diamond stylus follows the groove modulation with greater precision compared to a conical stylus, offering improved frequency and phase responses whilst reducing distortion.

First, the cart-body here has the para-toroidal coil arrangement of all of ATs top-line MM carts. Busting the jargon, this means the coils are wired like a humbucking guitar pickup i.e. out-of-phase in their holder, but in-phase at their terminals. This means they pick up less low-frequency hum and buzz from surrounding equipment. With that, you have less crosstalk than the AT-95 series, less noise and a slightly larger output signal; so signal-to-noise is better. Yes, this series is a little more expensive, but the scope for upgrading the stylus is better and you'll never tire of the sound.
