50th Anniversary Model
Inheriting a basic magnetic design from the AT50ANV, the Audio Technica ART9 was developed as a 50th anniversary model to reproduce the highest-quality sound using the vibration system from the renowned AT-OC9/III.
The basic structure of the Audio-Technica ART9 is an original MC type, with separate cylindrical coils to both channels. This meticulous engineering offers the greatest separation as the power is produced independently in each of the left and right channels.
Intermodulation distortion can be caused if the signal from the opposite channel escapes resulting in a decisive impact on audio quality and how the stereo sound spreads. Additionally, the two coils have a reverse-V shape which decreases effective moving mass as seen from the stylus tip, restricting unnecessary movement of the coil and eliminating distortion even more.
Drastically increasing the magnetic energy is a Neodymium magnet employing a maximum energy product BHmax of 50[kJ/m3] whilst a permendur yoke uses a high saturation flux density and remarkable magnetic materials.
The stylus tip is a special line contact type with a 40 µm × 7 µm curvature radius (used in the AT50ANV) and a solid boron cantilever with a 0.26 mm diameter. This accurately transfers the music signals read by the stylus tip to the magnetic coil.
Machined Aluminium Body
The hybrid body reduces unnecessary resonance with a housing made of machined aluminium materials that serve as a solid base to support stable playback capability. On top of this, the cover incorporates hard plastic materials to disperse parasitic resonance and produce crystal clear acoustic results.
Included with the cartridge are two brass mounting screws to fix the cartridge to the shell, optimally suited to the high sound quality of the cartridge itself.
